Africa’s populations by 2050
The University of Bordeaux is pleased to announce, within the framework of its Bordeaux Summer Schools, the launch of the following online programme this summer: Africa’s populations by 2050.
Taking place from June 24th to June 28th 2024, this online summer school is open to graduate and doctoral students, as well as post-doctoral fellows wishing to increase their knowledge and improve their methodological and interdisciplinary skills in terms of research and action for Africa.
Course content will provide participants with a critical and complementary analysis of the evolution of populations in Africa over the past 20 years, as well as the challenges and opportunities for the next 30 years in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals agenda.

From June 24th to June 28th, this summer school will consist of 4 half-day sessions of distance training, alternating thematic and methodological interventions from internationally recognised experts in public health and epidemiology, economics, political sciences and anthropology.
The programme offers live presentations, recorded and commented sessions, panel discussions, and round tables.
Participants learn in a variety of ways, thanks to:
- Lectures and discussions with experts on major development and sustainability issues for African cities over the next thirty years;
- Multi- and interdisciplinary discussions and debates on diverse policy and development sectors (health, food security, urban governance, technology, climate and environment, etc.) and on interventions towards reaching the SDGs in these fields.

Language:
lectures are conducted in English. Discussions and group work will be in both French and English. Candidates should have
at least a B2 level or equivalent in both languages.
Format:
this summer school will be delivered via remote learning.
